Suggest Treatment For Chronic Hip Pain And Numbness In Arms

Posted on Thu, 20 Nov 2014
Question: I have had chronic hip pain for the last 4 years. At one point my hips and back locked up for a week and I could not walk. That has happened twice. I have been through multiple forms of physical therapy such as water therapy, ultra sound, normal physical therapy, and the pain clinic. And countless amounts of drug regiments to tey and ease the pain and nothing has worked. In July the pain became so bad that I am now in a wheelchair. Because walking more than one minute causing extreme bone grinding and I am unbalanced. I have not been able to sleep in my bed because it is too soft and I cant sleep due to pain. I recently have had lab work, seen two different orthopedic doctors who have told me there is nothing they can do for me. I had to read my medical file to even find out that I have bone spurs, cyst, and tear in the lining of both my hips. The doctor most recently told me there is a possibility that I have MS and should see a neuro doctor. I am running out of options and they keep looking at me like I am making up hoe much pain I am in and think Im nuts. Im 26 years old and should not have this much issues with my hips. I am un aware of any injuries that I could have sustained to make me be in this much pain or not be able to walk. I have also started to experience numbness and restlessness in my arm, hands and legs making me concerned about blood clots because I am not as active as I once was.

Dear Madam,

Thanks for reverting back.

Anyways since you have symptoms involving two systems- hip pain and numbness in your arms there is a possibiilty of Multiple sclerosis but this presentation involving hip joint is unlikely . ,MS will affect spine not the hips .

As you mention there are bone spurs and tear in lining of hips it indicates local pathology of hip . Since there is no history of any mechanical cause possibilty of inflammatory arthritis also exists , there might be some sacroillitis going on but all this determination requires physical examination.

Since your orthopedicians have said there is no bone issue and they its MS there is a point in believing them . Also whether LUPUS has been looked into . I think best way will be to discuss this possibility with your treating doctor and see what he thinks about it as he remains the best judge of the situation as he has examined you .
