Suggest Treatment For Chronic Cough

default
Posted on Tue, 21 Jun 2016
Question: My wife has suffered (dry) cough for ~ 1 1/2 month. She visited her primary care physician and an ENT Dr, but got no clue what the root cause is. She was suggested by the Dr's to take out-of-counter anti-allergy medicine, e.g., Claritin, and no any improvement. She never has allergy before, and now may not be an allergy season here. My question are (1). what is the possible cause? (2). what specialty Dr.'s she shall visit?
Thanks very much for any suggestions XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Consult pulmonologist.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
She is having chronic cough (cough for more than 1 month) and not improving with over the counter drugs.
So better to first find out cause for this cough and then start appropriate treatment.
Possibility of either lung infection or bronchitis is more.
So consult pulmonologist and get done
1. Clinical examination of respiratory system
2. Chest x ray to rule out lung infection.
3. PFT (pulmonary function test) to rule out bronchitis.
Please let me know
1. Is she smoke?
Please reply me answer of above asked question, so that I can guide you better. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
