Suggest Treatment For Chronic Constipation

default
Posted on Fri, 12 Aug 2016
Question: I am seemingly very constipated and not sure what to do. I get a horrible stomach pain, go to the bathroom and one little pebble or 2 comes out and I can't go. I get up and less than 5 mins later same thing happens. Feels like I have to go so bad and then hardly anything comes out and I am straining tremendously. I am on an opoid medication but have been for 3 yrs and this hasn't happened before. Any suggestions? Laxative? Thx!

Brief answer....constipation is a known and most common problem with opioids intake
Detailed answer...
Hello,
Thanks for the query.
I have read your query and understand your concern.
Opioids are known to cause chronic constipation.
Although the best treatment is to stop taking opioids but since this is not possible for you,you have to resort to lifestyle changes on regular basis and laxatives ( initially ).
You can take an osmotic laxative like LACTULOSE 30 ml every night.
Along with this, lifestyle changes to be adopted are...
Plenty of Fiber intake by consuming fresh fruits, green vegetables etc. take psyllium husk 15 gms everyday with one glass of water.
Drink plenty of water. Consume at least 2-2.5 litres of water everyday ( 8-10 glass of water )
Do regular aerobic exercises for at least 40-45 minutes a day.
All these measures have to be done on regular basis to avoid constipation, since your intake of opioids is going to be there for long time.
I hope it helps, however you are most welcome to revert to me for any further query.
Best of luck
Thanks
