Question: Hi I am a 35 year old very healthy male. I have had a long history of constipation despite of healthy diet full of fibers. Dont smoke, drink. I have had bleeding from rectum since I was 17. It usually stops after a day. But 3 weeks ago I had bleeding and it lasted 2 days and then it stopped. I felt weak for a week. Then I was ok. But now I have noticed something sticking out of my anus. and there is occasional sharp pain inside the anus. What should I do.

Brief Answer:
see a doctor

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
What I see in the photo is a small hemorrhoid. I believe that is what you see and feel that is sticking out. Hemorrhoids may be the source of your recurrent bleeding. If you have pain though you should see a doctor. Since this has been such a chronic problem you may need to get a colonoscopy.
Also there are some newer medications for people with chronic constipation called Linzess and Amitiza. You may want to talk to your doctor about whether or not one of them might be right for you.
I hope you get some relief soon,
Dr. Robinson
