Detailed Answer:
Dear Mr XXXXXXX
1. The characteristic features of heart pain are that it occurs behind breastbone and can radiate to both arms, lower jaw and umbilicus. It comes on exertion and relives on rest. It should last more than 2 minutes and should not be precipitated by touch , pressure and particular posture. Pain lasting less than a minute is not anginal pain.
2. Important precautions are to avoid smoking, avoid stress, keep normal weight, do daily exercise and keep your cholesterol under check. Keep good control of diabetes / high blood pressure , if you have.
3. Best way to tell if a chest pain is due to heart disease or not is by getting a stress test done. But you must consult a cardiologist before getting any stress test done for good clinical examination and evaluation.
