Suggest Treatment For Cervical Spondylosis

Question: Dear Doctor,
My father aged 76 (now 2015) is a chronic Type-2 diabetic patient since 1983.
He is a pharmacist and very disciplined with regular exercise.
He has been using medicines continuously and regularly for diabetes.

He had undergone operation for removal of gallbladder during 2004 (10 years back).
Meanwhile he has been suffering from cervical spondylosis and other pains due to diabetes.
To relieve from pain he has been using painkillers like Ibuprofen, Diclofenac Sodium Chloride etc.

The summer of 2013 was too hot to bear with for the Seniors and my father had to sleep in Aircondition room. Adding to this he is hypersensitive to sanitation and cleans bathrooms with cleaning acids without mask on mouth and nose.
In turn he was affected by Bronchitis and treated with antibiotics PECEF Duo 200 and Mucinac.
The bronchitis is recurring every summer due to sleeping in a.c. room and acid fumes (I think so).

This being the case, 2 years back my father had (during March '15) right Nephrectomy due to RCC.
The urologist has told us the cancer to the right kidney might have started 6 months back and affected bottom half of the kidney.
However, there is no metastasis. Recently he has suffered TIA due to hypoglycemia. Now my father is OK.
But, he is still suffering from cough and again the Doctor has prescribed PECEF Duo 200 for 5 days. The cough has come down. But, still he has some cough leftover. He likes drinking hot water always and hates cool things.

In this context, as he is leading life on one kidney, I have 2 doubts:

1. Whether PECEF Duo 200 and Mucinac has caused kidney cancer? (If this is right again there is danger of second kidney may get affected by cancer again).

2. Whether my father is suffering from laryngeal sensory neuropathy along with Bronchitis?
Thank You.

Brief Answer:
CT chest

Detailed Answer:
Hi

I have gone through your history and I am sorry to know the condition of your father. I will try my best to help you.

PECEF Duo contains Cefpodoxime which does not cause kidney cancer

There is no evidence that mucinac caused kidney cancer

Since he is having cough I would advise you to do a CT scan of chest with contrast as there is chance of kidney cancer spreading to lungs causing the cough

He is not suffering from laryngeal sensory neuropathy and CT chest will give us an idea whether he is having bronchitic changes in his lungs

Regards

DR DE
