Brief Answer:
Treatment is based on right judgement...

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX,
I understand your concern.
I am Dr. Arun Tank, infectious disease specialist, answering your concern.

The provided treatment is based on judgement and it is correct.

Usually such skin infection like cellulitis, carbuncle, impetigo etc. cause mostly by staphylococcus bacteria. They are commensal flora of the skin. Infection initiates when your hair follicle is pulled by some means.

As they are commensal flora they ate variety of antibiotics and becomes resistant to routinely prescribed drugs.

So for such a infection strong antibiotic combination like amoxycillin and clavulanic acid is prescribed.

In addition to it please check your blood sugar levels once, such infections are common in diabetics.

Maintaining the local hygiene with dressing and cleanliness with neosporin powder makes more favorable environment for effective treatment.

I will be glad to answer your further concern ask me here or your can contact me for future reference on bit.ly/DrArun

I have been on Augmentin duo 1 gm (1 morning and 1 evening) for 2 weeks. I visited the doctor again today.TThere is good improvement but he has asked me to take Linezolid 600 mg (1 morning and 1 evening) for another 7 days. I think I am ok and don't want to take additional high strength antibiotics. I have also got my Random Blood Sugar done which is normal. Pls advise

Brief Answer:
Pain, discharge etc requires Linezolid

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX Nagpal,

Thank you for asking query.

Linezolid is the reserve antibiotic. It will be used only in case of the resistant organisms causing infections like enterococcus and MRSA (Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus)

If you have swelling, pain, redness at the infection site than you can take the linezolid.

Linezolid helps to cure your infections caused by resistant organisms.
