Question: My 40 year old son had some bruises on the inside of his left calf, went to see the doctor who said it was due to sitting too long at work. No meds. He is a book keeper at work. Does this sound correct?

Brief Answer:
Yes, this is possible. Time would make the clear difference here!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about these bruises that your son has. Bruises are commonly caused by trauma. If he has been sitting or supported the leg against a hard surface, that could be a possible explanation. Given the fact that the doctor concluded on sitting for too long, recommended he takes frequent breaks and prescribed no drug is reassuring and leads us to think it is not a too serious problem at this time. As he follows these recommendations, if he doesn’t improve of still has something similar to this, then there is a clear reason to be worried at that time. For now, let’s be calm and follow through with the advice.

If possible, I will like you to upload an image of this bruise for me to see. That way, I will be able to provide more insights and suggestions on this. To upload an image, simply click on the link to upload a file and follow the instructions. If this proves difficult, please send the image by mail to YYYY@YYYY and request that the image should be uploaded to your query.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thanks for using our services and do feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.

Brief Answer:
This shows blood pooling!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for the image.

I have reviewed it. This image is suggestive of blood pooling to the lower limbs. This is common when we sit for long and the body fails to pump blood back to the system. This is also more common in persons whose weight is on the upper end of normal. When we wake up and exercise, we contract the muscles which help return this blood back to circulation and prevents this. I am on the same page with his doctor on the need for frequent breaks and brief exercises to address this.

If I may ask, what is his height and weight?

Thanks so much and wish your son well.

Brief Answer:
Please, he needs to work on his weight as well.

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for this precision.

His weight is too much for his height and this is one of the reasons why returning blood to the heart might actually prove difficult. He can try to drop some pounds by exercising 30-45minutes on most days of the week, staying active and eating healthy.

If he needs more specific assistance, then we may need to talk to a weight loss specialist for this.

Until next, I wish him well.
