Question: Hi, i drank harpic 6 months ago. I was taken to the hospital and treatment was given. an endoscopy was taken. and the doctor said my throat was the most affected and stomach was not as bad as my throat. and they asked me to continue treatment for a month. but at that time i was not interested in living so dint bother about it. but now i realized my mistakes and want to start afresh. should i consult a doctor and take treatment. i dont have any vomiting or blood in my stool. i dont have any unbearable aches in my stomach. but if i am late to eat and when its empty my stomach burns. i am not able to eat spicy food the tip of my tongue, throat and stomach burns. but the tract doesn't burn. at times when i drink liquids there is a tightening feeling in my throat. digestion is usual like before. i eat lot of fruits and vegetable. i dont drink or smoke. can i treat my throat and stomach with home remedies without a clinical treatment. if so what should i do?

Brief Answer: Unlikely to be due to harpic. Detailed Answer: Dear Friend. Hi , I am Dr Anshul Varshney , I have read your query in detail , I understand your concern. I am glad that you have realized your mistake and want to live happily and healthy. The household toilet cleaner Harpic contains hydrochloric acid (~10%) as the active ingredient. Hydrochloric acid in the cleaner is what causes the symptoms of poisoning. Well, it’s a less violent acid comparatively. It does not cause serious damage to any of the vital organs but can damage the mucus membrane in the stomach causing bleeding. Since your episode was 6 month back, it is unlikely to cause any effects now, since there was no severe burn inside stomach as documented by endoscopy. Severe burns can cause strictures n stomach and intestine and can cause serious problems. However, i don't feel with the available details that you have the problems related to that past event. Give me following details: 1. How much amount did you ingested that time? 2. Did you have any bleeding that time? 3. Any History of Acidity? Oral Ulcers? Constipation? 4. If you have any investigations please attach. This is my personal opinion based on details available here. If you still have any query you may please ask me and answer the above questions. I squeezed the liquid directly so i dont know the exact amount. one small gulp i guess. i was made to vomit everything out within 15 min of consumption with salt water. while vomiting there was blood in it. i dint have nausea or dint have blood in my stool or urine. i dint feel dizzy either. I have a history of oral ulcer. while in college i had irregular eating habits and lot of junk food consumption. and bfor consuming harpic i was missing meals and eating out. so i guess my stomach would have been affected a little beforehand itself. and i worsened it with acid. but now i have regularised and completely stopped junk food consumption. i eat normal spicy food from childhood not a big fan of spicy food either. but now i am not able to consume the same amount that i was able to have before.like i said before there is this burning sensation its uncomfortable but not unbearable. i just dont want to worsen anything. so what should i do. i have attached my endoscopy and blood reports taken while i was admitted 6 months ago. note: I regularly clean my stomach by doing XXXXXXX i.e. early in the morning in empty stomach i consume 4 glasses of XXXXXXX warm salt water and vomit it. then take another 4 glass and induce diarrhoea with yoga asanas. i do this once in two weeks. can i do this. will it worsen my system.

Brief Answer: Detail follows. Detailed Answer: Dear Friend. You can take the medicine just before the meals. The pain in throat can be due to Acidity and also due to mucosal damage by the toxin, that would go with time. In case you have severe burning then you may take Xylocaine Viscus 15 ml on as when required basis. In cases of severe damage, there occurs stricture formation in gastro intestinal tract, but in your case, even if they are there, you don't require any special treatment for that. These things improve with time. Try these medications for 15 days and then review. You may continue with the Kriya's. They are usually considered safe. You can take bland boiled rice. If you have any further query, please ask me, else you may close the discussion and rate it.
