Suggest Treatment For Bumps On Scalp

Posted on Fri, 19 Feb 2016
Question: Good Afternoon,
I have two small bumps on my scalp that have been there for as long as I can remember. My mothers always called them my devil horns. They are not really noticeable due the fact that my hair covers it. Recently, over the last week...one of the bumps has been sore...and at times oozes. It almost like a pimple that needs to be popped. The pain is not consistent...but, it is sore to touch it. The bump is not getting larger. It is not bleeding or anything like that. Any ideas?

Brief Answer:
Could be an abscess or simple folliculitis; pls try to attach images

Detailed Answer:
Hello sir and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. First, I would like to request you to ask for someones assistance in taking clear images of the region for my examination and either attach them to our discussion here or email them to me at:

YYYY@YYYY

and please do mention "ATTN: Dr. Shoaib Khan" in the subject line, thank you.

The most likely explanation could be congenital marks which are completely harmless which could possibly have an infected hair follicle or abscess which could have resulted from either the accumulation of sweat or dust, or even from a strand of hair being pulled.

I would like to comment further after viewing the region if that is possible. I hope to hear from you in order to help you further.

Best wishes.

Brief Answer:
Folliculitis or as a result of a dry scalp; suggestions included

Detailed Answer:
Hello once again sir.

Indeed seem to be related to either folliculitis or an issue with dry scalp (resulting in cracks through which infection-causing bacteria has seeped in). I would only recommend simple measure like the following:

+Keep the scalp clean at all times
+Make sure you apply a topical applicant like neosporin over the region twice daily for the next 7-10 days
+Avoid hair removal
+Avoid touching the region with your hands
+Make sure you shower on a daily basis
+Avoid the use of any head gear

I hope and pray you experience a rapid and complete recovery. Please do not hesitate to write back to me for any further clarifications, I would be more than happy to help.

Best wishes.
