Suggest Treatment For Bulge Under My Ribs

default
Posted on Tue, 2 Sep 2014
Question: For 25 years if I bend over a certain way, like trying to give myself a pedicure or straining I get this bulge just under my right rib cage or diaphragm, it pops out as a small bulge pulsates and is very painful and than for a couple of days I feel really bruised. The only way to stop it is to lay on my back straight out and try to relax and than it goes back in, but I am bruised feeling for days and very painful. I do not know what kind of doctor to got to. I cannot do sit ups or any exercise like that, just getting up the wrong way it can happen. I must say I have had 2 back surgeries and know my stomach muscles are weak. It is very painful sore feeling.

Thanks XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
It looks like hernia.

Detailed Answer:
welcome to Health care magic.
I am Dr Ganesh.

1. No its not gall bladder. Gall bladder will not show such symptoms.

2. According to your description most likely cause could be hernia. When there is defect in the anterior abdominal wall. The bulge which you are experiencing could be the intestine and Omentum. The pain you are experiencing is because of the strangulation of the bowel / Omentum.

3.Another possible cause could be defect in the diaphragm, Diaphragmatic hernia.
Other causes are Hiatus hernia - when the stomach itself will slide in to the chest region.

4.You need to see surgeon.

5.The primary investigation in this case is - An erect x-ray abdomen, chest PA view, and an ultrasound abdomen ( will help to evaluate any abdominal causes and abdominal wall defect (if present) will be measured by asking you to cough) at the same time clarify your doubt regarding gall bladder.

Hope it helps you. Wish you a good health.
