Suggest Treatment For Bronchitis

Question: I had a clear chest scan lung scan, but my lungs still hurt and I still cough really hard. What other tests should I be getting or is this going to just take a couple of months to go away. I was diagnosed with bronchitis and given steroids and antibiotics. I also had a regular lung x ray that also came back negative. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
If there is no improvement in a week, sputum and lung function may be tested

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
Bronchitis is mild inflammation of the small airways in the lungs. As CT scan chest and X rays are clear, it is unlikely to be a serious concern. However, you might be having a milf infection in its earliest stages and therefore you doctor has prescribed antibiotics for you. Steroids will keep the airways open and prevent them from collapsing and causing further distress. Taking medications should be under the guidance of your doctor you must complete the antibiotics course and taper the steroids as recommended by your doctors.

Since you are having continuous cough, doing sputum tests and lung function tests might be required if your cough does not show improvement after taking antibiotics. Should you be allergic to certain substances like pollen dust and smoke then you must be careful not to expose yourself to such offensive environment.

Protect yourself from extremes of weather, you should be feeling better within a week.

Wishing you a quick recovery.

Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Regards,
Dr.Vivek
