Brief Answer:
Bronchitis and sinusitis.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.
Acute bronchitis(lower respiratory tract) and sinusitis (upper respiratory tract) affecting both husband and wife are most likely by viral infection. Worsening of infection is due to super added bacterial infection. You might have to change to combination of amoxycillin & clauvlinic acid. You may consult your doctor again.

What is clauvlinic acid? Is that an antibiotic?

Brief Answer:
Clavulanic acid

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.

Clavulanic acid is a β-lactam drug that functions as β-lactamase inhibitor. While not effective by itself as an antibiotic, when combined with penicillin-group antibiotics e.g.amoxycillin, it can overcome antibiotic resistance in bacteria that secrete β-lactamase, which otherwise inactivates most penicillins including amoxycillin.
Amoxicillin/clavulanic acid or co-amoxiclav is an antibiotic with an increased spectrum of action and restored efficacy against amoxicillin-resistant bacteria that produce β-lactamase.
Since you are not responding to Amoxicillin alone, drug resistance of bacteria is most likely-hence this combination probably will give the desired result.

You may consult your doctor again.
