Question: I was adopted at age 5 years old. I have Now got Borderline Personality Disorder and Dependentr Personality Disorder. Am I correct to assume that there is a connection between being adopted/fostered and being diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder and Dependent Personality Disorder?

Borderline Personality disorder, Dependent personality disorder or any other personality disorders occur due to multiple factors. Genetics, environmental factors, psychological factors all act collectively to result in traits of any personality disorders.

Yes various studies have found that adopted children tend to have higher risk of developing borderline personality or dependent personality disorders as compared to general population. The risk is even more in adoptees who got adopted at later age and who are aware of their adoption status. Lack of attachment during early years is one probable cause of increased risk. But these findings are based upon some case studies or retrospective studies.
