Brief Answer:
Need more infromation.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome to HCM.

Blood in urine is not seen normally and it might be indicative of some infection in urine probably urinary tract infection or infection in bladder or may be in kidneys but it must be co-related to clinical symptoms of the individual.

So,before going into further discussion I would like to ask some more information from you.

1) Do you have any burning or pain during urination when you noticed substantial amount of blood in my urine yesterday?

2) Do you have a higher frequency of urine recently?

3) Have you taken food like beets or blackberry recently or any other drugs (like NSAIDs) apart from your routine?

If you do not have any other symptoms or just noticed reddish urine then you may wait for some days until you go to your family doctor, there is no need to be get panicked.

However,it's better to be concerned always but not to worry,so you may go for urine examination at some nearby lab at right now and wait for the report.

And kindly get back to me with this answers.

Regards,

I have had no burning or pain when urinating. No higher frequency of urination. And I've not eaten anything like beets but I did take one aleve 2 days ago. Should I stop taking hctz until I see my own doctor?

Brief Answer:
May stop HCTZ temporarily.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the immediate response.

It is good that you do not have any other symptoms and in this case, tab.aleve (which is a NSAID) might be the cause for your blood in urine as I suspected earlier.

However, you may stop taking HCTZ temporarily which also has the same side effect but the chances are less since you must be taking it from the past and just noticed blood in urine on yesterday.

So,you may wait for the few days until you see your treating doctor.

And meanwhile, ensure to drink more water to keep urine dilute which will help to control hematuria.

Urine alkaliser like liquid citralka can also be taken (2 TSF thrice daily) if you experience burning urination later on.

In case,if you see blood in urine again or continuously then it would be advisable to see doctor immediately for further evaluation.

Hope this will help you and let me know if you have more questions.

Regards,

Dr.Sandip Kabra
