Suggest Treatment For Blood In Stool, Fatigue And Irregular Bowel Movement

default
Posted on Thu, 4 Feb 2016
Question: Hello, I am a 26 yo male, 103 Kgs and 6' height. For the last four years I have been having bright red blood in stool in small quantities every 2 to 3 months for 3 to 4 days accompanied by cramps sometimes. Most of the time it is triggered by Cold drink or coffee or certain oily foods (though I hardly eat outside home cooked meals). My bowel movements are irregular, often with flaky stools of soft (not liquid but mushy) consistency though sometimes I pass healthy stool. I haven't experienced any fatigue, loss of weight or anaemia. As I had early morning school (around 10 years back) often I couldn't pass bowel in the morning so I used to pop in a Metrogyl 400 tablet (unknown to parents) often, thinking it would prevent an urge while in school, though I have stopped that ill-practice long back. A local doctor told me I might have a chronic infection of stomach from the irresponsible use of the medicine. Please advice. Currently I am out for work so it wont be possible for me to get a colonoscopy or other tests right away.

Brief Answer:
Seems Chronic Collitis

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for writing in

It does seem you are suffering from chronic collitis

Taking any medicines irrelevantly will surely end up in to issues not manageable by a patient

The fact that it starts after a drink and the consistency of stool described points to the presence of some form of subacute infection in GI track

You need not go for colonoscopy but do go for a stool culture report and get back to me

In the mean time avoid contaminated drinks
Eat healthy freshly cooked meals

Take a good probiotic(eg. ECONORM) twice a day till the report is with you

Hope this helps
Do write back once the report is with you
