Brief Answer:
anti coagulation is the main stay of treatment

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The general aim of treatment are: (1) to prevent pulmonary embolism and
(2) to prevent or minimise the risk of post thrombotic syndrome which are signs and symptoms that can occur in persons after a history of a clot. The symptoms are leg heaviness, tingling or cramping, varicose veins, ulcer formation, pain , swelling in the leg

The main treatment is the use of anti coagulants, this is the main stay of treatment. If it is a first time clot and there are no risk factor for recurrence, then anti coagulants are used for 3 to 6 months.

Warfarin is the most common anti coagulant used. There are some newer ones but there are more costly example xarelto, eliquis.

With warfarin, she would need regular blood tests to make sure the blood is thin enough to prevent any other clotting.

i hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
