Question: Dear Doctor,
I need help to understand how to live, eat, drink, and function in my life?
I recently have been diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder 2 one month ago on medication "Wellbutrin-XL 150 mg once daily" due to depression episodes and mood swings all my life.
5 years ago through abdomen ultrasound found out I have Right kidney Atrophy which is my left kidney functions 85% and the right's 15% only and during investigations, lab tests, and MRI my physician assured me I am in normal shape and nothing to worry about except high blood pressure – I need to keep my blood pressure low all times- which is not the case since I started the depression medication my blood pressure begins to increase- up and down every day- my normal blood pressure all these past years was 110/70 and now is reaching up to 140/95.
I have had other health issues too, high cholesterol level since 2 years on medication- Statin 10 mg once daily- I do Lipid profiles every 3 months and it is in a stable status.
Lactose intolerance and IBS with bloats- bad smells – nothing I do seem to work well with my stomach to make it calm down and have no bloats or sensitivity to all kind of foods.
I have history of stomach ulcers.
I am sleeping more than 13 hours a day, eating breakfast, lunch, and dinner with lots of vegetables and water.
I gained weight and want to eat Flaxseed to drop it down and decrease the cholesterol level, can I do that?
Because too much caffeine hearts my stomach and I need to sleep less hours, how I do that without caffeine?
Thank you
doctor

Brief Answer:
Armodafinil is a good option

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for choosing health care magic for posting your query.

I have gone through your question in detail and I can understand what you are going through.

Firstly I would like to congratulate you for a stable blood pressure and chooesterol levels. Your bp of 140/ 94 is ok considering that you have renal issues and cholesterol is also stable . So diet wise probably what you are having at present seems to be pretty good. You can still tyr to cut down on fatty foods and high carb diets like rice if its possible.
Regarding your issue of taking flax seed, you may go ahead as it is not going to effect your bipolar state. For bipolar 2 disorder the drug of choice is a mood stabiliser like sodium valproate or lithium. Taking an anti depressent like welbutrin alone wont be a good option. You may discuss thjs issue with your psychiatrist
Lastly regarding the excessive drowsiness, armodafinil at 50 mg is a good option against drowsiness. You may avoid caffeine in case you take armodafinil.

Hope I am able to answer your concerns.

If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.

If not, you may close the discussion and if possible you may rate the answer for me, so that I get a good feedback.
