Brief Answer:
Most likely due to laryngopharyngeal reflux.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thank you for asking HCM.

I have gone through your query. Your problem can be most likely due to laryngopharyngeal reflux. It can be managed effectively by diet and exercise.

For such condition I would recommend taking proton pump inhibitors like rabeperazole and motility enhancers like domperidone for 4 weeks.

Avoid fatty , greasy and spicy foods, coffee, carbonated drinks , alcohol and smoking. Avoid lying down straight away after meals. Take food at least two hours before bed time.

Taking combination of antihistamine like levocetirizine and mast cell stabilzers like monteleukast along with this is also recommended.

Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.

I take protonix before breakfast and dinne, half an hour before no my Dr never told me this and sometimes I forget probably I feel this way now. What do you think? But most of the time I remember but no half an hour.
Montelukast never forget take one in the morning and loratadine one at night. Cold drinks air conditioner make me cough hard and bring sputum out white and thick. Being around people or work or social is no good for me because you never know when will start coughing and spit phlegm Diet? Well need to keep and I on this. Forget. Flovent increase post nasal drip. Flonase too. I back in flovent. But I am thinking about stopping flonase ER recently told me to use. What do you think? My important think is to stop post nasal drip because spitting clear my throat but post nasal drip start, again then I have to remove this again by cough and spit really important to stop. I only get chest tightNess with cold or flu or cold air no good I take vitamin C everyday 2000 mg. Fish oil omega 3 b12 b6 magnesium will start again. My Dr said I have asthma but never had Shor breathing good thing. I think all of this is GRD.. winter is not good for me. Thinking if warm weat her will solve this. So I asked questions here I hope you can help me. Oh I take mucinex too it is ok to use? My Dr gave me a treatment on nebulizer recently I cough and flema was out. I don't cough constantly. On the bus and train yes I do is embarrased. Cancel ultrasound appt because my cough. Waiting to stop this. Lie down yes I feel flema stuck on my throat so I sit down my Dr prescribed me with predizone recently but have side effects that scare me. How good is this. Do you think it helps with my problem? Rather flovent but brings post nasal drip no good. Please help me.

Welcome again.

Thank you for your follow up.

You can continue with protonix along with motility enhancers like domperidone. If protonix is not helping then better to use rabeprazole. Your problem can be alergic primarily but gastric reflux worsens it. So taking these both will help. Taking monteleukast and loratadine helps not to get an allergic attack. So you can continue that.

You can avoid flonase and flovent if you dont have any breathing difficulty. In case of acute symptoms you can take corticostroids like methylprednisolone for a short period. Taking this for short period won't be causing any serious side effects.

Avoid irritating environment and irritating foods and drinks as much as possible.

Let me know if anything not clear.

Thanks.

Thank you for your follow up.

Protonix should be taken half an hour to 1 hour before food to have better effect. Short term corticosteroids is ok to take. There won't be any side effects if taken for short duration. Flovent or flonase increase post nasal drip due to dilation of respiratory tract.

Foods you can have the one which is not causing irritation for you. Irritating foods for stomach should be avoided to decrease gastric irritation and reflux.

You can have fruits or vegetables.

Allergies can be towards cold weather or towards irritation from gastric reflux or dust or some unknown agents.

Your answer was good. Now and then I hope is no too late will start protonix 30 minutes to an hour before breakfast and dinner. Prednisone is safe then, do you think will help with my problem? Or try again protonix taking the way should be, diet no caffeine. Plain water. Juice are ok? Wich ones. Loose weight is good. I just read what to avoid. Sad because I like to eat good food oh well. So doing this do you think my flema will be reduce and a cough at times? 3 months is good enough. Flema build up is really bothersome soon I gave to vaporizer again. Tough situation. So will follow diet and protonix the way you explained to me first for a week. If no cure then predizone pills. Ok no more Flovent and Flonase spray.
Breathing is ok energy ok. But my social activitie is reduce plus work because this.

Brief Answer:
Short course of prednisolone helps in settling an acute episode.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome again.

Thank you for your follow up.

You can go with protonix as well as montelukast and loratadine. Prednisolone will help in settling an acute episode of symptoms. So when you have severe symptoms such a short course prednisolone therapy works.

Coffee can cause gastric irritation. Otherwise it is ok. You can have black tea in moderation. Fruit juice if you tolerate well then you can take or else take whole fruits. Drinking warm water is more good. It will decrease irritation. Better to have light meals at short intervals also.

Loosing weight is good if you are having excessive weight. In such case it will help to decrease your symptoms also.

Also one more thing. Keep mouth full of water for 15 minutes and spit, in the morning after getting up and before going to sleep. This also helps to decrease phlegm build up.

Even stress can increase your symptoms. So have some stress relaxation like breathing exercise. Sit relaxed and take deep breaths. You can repeat this several times and do three times daily.

Hope this may help you.

I have a new question for you, well probably my Dr said I have a asthma and the lots of mucus that doesn't go away this time is because asthma flare up du to allergies, but yes can get confuse with acid reflux or what you mention to me larynogofageal reflux. But I also told you that Flovent 120 mg was giving me post nasal drip and was bothersome so I find the need to stop because if mucus come down behind my throat go until my lungs more mucus will accumulate. But I saw my dr and she hear my longs ok good breathing normal is not problem with that at this point. But she was concern about my spells of cough with mucus flema that I have to spit for around 3 months already she may want me to stop that using prednisone but you said I won't have side efects with 20 mg. you may right, but Internet is telling me people get side efects may be some no, is unpredictable. How do I know will I have. Is scaring for me to start this medication. Rather flovent if helps to stop the post nasal drip and the cough with mucus flema is so embarrassing when happen when I am outside people ask me if I am ok. So here is the real thing what I read with prednisone woks in remove inflammation if inflammation is gone cough is gone and mucus and breathing is ok, but what I really have is flema mucus and bad sometimes spell of cough with flemma breathing is normal. Tightness on my diafragma yes at times. When is mucus there I guess. I am taking montelukast loratadine and protonix before meals every half an hour to an hour now hope helps plus diet. So why to use prednisone if I can breath ok, is just cough at times I do that to remove the flema, what other medication is good to remove the flema and mucus without the need of prednisone 20 mg so I avoid the side efects you said I won't have but who knows everybody is different and testimonials here on the winternet sound scaring, I still breathing ok, only cough at times with spells of lots of flema mucus white transparent thick. I try today 2 predizone but I want to stop and no continue tomorrow and following the nex 6 days. If I go back to flovent little high dies will help with mucus? Cough. Is better but post nasal drip here is a problem, my post nasal drip lessen since I stop flovent so less accumulation of flemma there. I slept good last night my sister gave me a muscle relaxer. Or do you think cough with this kind of flema dissapear with the treatment you suggest, taking protonix the right way plus singular and loratadine hot water breathing excersices diet. I feel disable hard to go out or socialize or do shopping or go to appt. I feel you are a good Dr. Is any other good medication without bad side efects who help me with this? Or if I move to other state the problem will go away. Feeling so sad now. Thank you my good dr.

Flovent high doze or same doze medication for post nasal drip something that stop flema with cough.

Brief Answer:
Corticosteroid (prednisolone) if used properly then there wont be problem.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome again.

Thank you for your follow up query.

Prednisolone when used judiciously then there won't be a problem. Short term use are well tolerated. There is no drugs with out side effects. When used properly there won't be problems.

You can go on with protonix , loratadine and monteleukast. Prednisolone is for severe symptoms. So if you don't have severe symptoms then no need to take it. Flovent is also not needed if you don't have breathlessness. Just wait and watch for improvement gradually.

If there is no improvement then spirometry test and allergy test can be performed. This will help for your definite treatment. spirometry test will reveal any bronchoconstriction you have or cause of it. Allergy test will help to identify the allergy causing agent also.

Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.

How about budesonide med, is this one more safe in side efects and do the same work like this one? Prednisone. Well my cough bad comes with itchi lungs then hard cough specially stores supermarkets bus trains, I cough hard with lots of flema after people look at me scare. The asked me if I was ok. Indoors no much but flemma still there so I do hot water vaporizer. Helps a lot to cough hard and spell the flema out. But really I feel like I have to force my cough doesn't come naturally at home. Hard to come the cough here at times. Using mucinex helps some times. Guafinicin. My sister boyfriend is a Dr he said one injection of dexamitroxen I think it is will end with my problem.
I kind of believe in you, but reading the side efects of prednisone is scaring later you have to deal with the consequences and deal with new treatments. I want to avoid this. Diabetes, swolen kegs face feet belly insomnia psiquiatric problems blurred vision. Hypertension weakness, decrease inmune system, muscle aches. Is horrible. So scaring. But you said could be allergies, I should get tested for this. May be allergy vaccine will help me no to have this anymore. No sure if is related to allergies. My breathing is ok. But if I don't spell the flemma my chest can get congested. No good. So now I will go to do my vaporizer with hot water and eucaliptus oil. Help me cough and bring the flemma out. Good think I don't cough chronically only at times. But I have to force at times to clean my lung or reflux.
Yes will continue with the rest of the medication. Prednisone hmmm. Will see. Here I explained to you better my symptoms and when happen.:) thanks for your answers and great help.

Also when AC is too cold I cough hard.

Welcome again.

Thank you for your follow up.

Most likely you are having allergy to cold environment , dust etc. That is why those environment makes you sick. Using monteleukast and loratadine helps to an extent against those.
As i said before corticosteroid if judiciously then its ok. It is true that you can get the side effects you mentioned if you use it continuously. For short term use methyl prednisolone is better. Budesonide is available in inhalation form. You can get inhalers with budesonide like flovent. It is ok to use that if you are tolerable with it. Inhaled corticosteroid is always better compared to oral.

Dextromethorphan is a cough suppressant. If continuous cough is there it can be used. But injections are not preferred for cough. It is available as cough syrups. Mucinex will help if phlegm is thicker. You can use honey and lemon juice mix as an alternative for this also. Taking vitamin C 100 mg per day is also good.

Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.

Is allergies, or asthma allergies what I have is being a while like 4 months flema thick white and cough, got it from light cold virus I had or someone cigarette smoke a guy who was smoking near me posible was this guy. So hard to stop the phlema anywhere I start coughing then flema interfere with my activitie or social moment or shopping something make me cough hard outside with flema, even going on the bus or train, here inside the house too but less I think. I will follow your advice. Well a Dr said prednisone injection one time clear the problem how truth is this. I took my 2 pills already of prednisone 20 mg each one I think. So is 80 mg so far I thin I have been taking, or in 10 mg each pill no sure.

So is allergy asthma or regular allergy. What do you think.
May be changing area will help. Like Fl may be or XXXXXXX or California.

Ok will continue with treatment on prednisone and honey lemon hot water chicken soup hot. Please answer my questions and have a good day.

Should I get a cover mask for my nose and mouth all the time? If your answer is yes. Wich one you will recommend me.

Brief Answer:
Single injection won't be enough as it is short acting.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome again.

Thank you for your follow up query.

Single injection won't be effective as it is short acting. You can go with Prenisolone oral. Go with the same dosage and term your doctor recommended.
Asthma is caused by allergy. But there will be severe reversible constriction of airways while having an attack. That gives wheezing. If that is not there then it is not asthma. If you get any wheezing then a spirometry test should be done to rule out asthma.

You can cover your mouth and nose while going into dusty environment. Using mask N 95 is good for this. Changing into a place with clear and healthy environment is good if possible.

Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.

No I don't have wheezing never had, I think when she ruled that was base on how much I can breath wasn't the right amount normal like 400 if I remember was 3 years ago I think but I think myself lack of breathing excersices no sure. I get chest tightness when I have a cold.but no wheezing now flema and cough at times no all the time. So she gave me flovent 2 puffs in the morning 2 in the afternoon. But when I don't have tightness no need or just on e a day, plus rescuer no need this much if I walk fast may need but usually no. My Issue is lots of thick mucus flema with cough I had this complain 2 years ago so. Then she gave me singular . I was using loratadine. Flema really start in polen season 2 years ago. But went away then one day had a cold I develop bronquitis cough for 2 months with flema she gave medicine for this antibiotic. Now got for 4 months ago flema again lots with cough at times but my berthing is ok. No whezzing. Probably I suffer from allergies and no asthma what do you think. Should I go for a second opinion? What do you think after all I just told you. It is asthma or allergies.?

Thank you for your follow up query.

Allergy and asthma are very much related. Treatment is somewhat same also. Allergy can gradually go into asthma also. From your history i don't see asthma in you now. Like I mentioned before, those who have asthma there will be severe constriction of airways which causes wheezing when getting exposed to allergic agents. You have only mild respiratory symptoms like allergic rhinitis or allergic bronchitis.

Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
