Brief Answer: PRP therapy; Hair Transplantation Detailed Answer: Hi there XXXXXXX XXXXXXX I hear you & understand your concerns & have viewed your clear digital photo of the region. I think the prognosis for you is good given your age & the area of hair loss & the density currently. I dont know what they do at Dr Batras et al as these are not allopathic branches of medicine & therefore cannot comment on the same. If you require hair growth, i would recommend 2 things for you: something called PRP treatment (platelet derived growth factor) & Hair transplantation. I perform both these at my clinics in Bangalore & have a well trained team for the latter (hair transplantation). The former requires expertise & i have been doing this for more than 5-6 years but the results of these injections are about say 20% (adjunct therapy) & are best if done together with hair transplantation. I do hope this advice is clear & useful & to take this issue further, it is best you meet a competent dermatologist in person near you or contact this healthcaremagic site administrators' for a telephonic consultation with me as per the rules of the site, i may not be permitted to share my number directly with you. Good Luck & wish you a good head of hair soon. Cheers! Dr Praveen Rodrigues MD

Dear sir, Thanking for reply.i have few questions for you I have seen a programme of Mr.Dr.Rantnavel(Apollo hospital) in the Sun network channel a few months back.He said that for taking tablets for one year re growth of hair is possible. My question is ,is it possible? 2. How much cost for hair transplantation in my case? 3. How much percentage successful in hair transplantation operation in my case? After completion of hair transplantation, any tablets to be taken ? 4. How much time will require for hair growth after hair transplantation? 5. Any chance for hair fall of transplanted hair?

Brief Answer: Cost relative; Hair transplantation effective Detailed Answer: Yes Tablets do work but the results are not that favourable & there are side effects to contend with that you may not like & overall results not as good as transplantation. Hair transplantation costs depend on the number of hair follicles grafted & the centre & the technique employed. You will have to consult someone for a exact figure but my estimate would be anywhere between 75,000 & 1.5 lac. rupees. Hair transplantation is successful but one cannot put a percentage to it. If by percentages, you mean hair fall, you must expect a 60% loss or fall of hair post procedure but this will re-grow & overall I would say one could safely expect a 60-75% increase in density. This will take around 3-6 mths. You could even couple a hair transplantation with those finasteride tablets the doctor may have been referring to...again the treating doctor will discuss this with you. In the end, it is all about expectations & expertise of the person doing it. Good luck in your choices & Godspeed.

Hi sir, Thanking you for your reply. Any side effect in hair transplantation? Hi sir, What is advice for steam cell therapy treatment? What is hair mineral test? what is the content of test?

Answered by Dr. Praveen Rodrigues (45 minutes later)
Brief Answer: Side effects of hair transplant minimal Detailed Answer: Hello XXXXXXX Hair transplantation does not have any side effects other than if you set your expectations too high, it may not be met. Other than that, the usual side effects as for any other surgical incision apply: eg Infection, wound dehiscence, keloids etc & this is like for any other surgery; safer because it can be done under local anaesthesia so no side effects & risk of general anaesthesia. Stem cell therapy i have discussed with you earlier. It is also called PRP like i described to you. It is purely an 'adjuvant' therapy or 'add-on' therapy in my opinion. Hair mineral test tests for various minerals in the hair but its relevance & reliability has been questioned by various authorities including its relevance to clinical practice. I personally dont recommend it. Good Luck. Trust this has answered all your questions clearly. Please do meet your dermatologist/hair transplant specialist of choice & he/she will take this further. Wish you every success & a full head of hair soon. Dr Praveen Rodrigues MD
