Suggest Treatment For Bad Bout Of Gastritis

default
Posted on Wed, 13 May 2015
Question: I am recovering from a bad bout of gastritis that started in earnest ten days ago. During this time I've had very little sleep, and a lot of weird muscle spasms that began in my legs and makes them jerk when sitting or lying down. The ones in my legs aren't painful, but now they persist painfully around my rib cage and upper arms, and a new (very painful) one that seems to start at the back of my tongue and goes down the left side of my neck. My abdominal muscles cramp painfully from the chest down when I have a bowel movement. I am not experiencing any weakness, just a lot of pain and discomfort.

I go to bed at the same time every night, and have little trouble falling asleep, but I wake after 1-3 hours and can't go back to sleep. During the day I frequently feel very suddenly so tired that I can't keep my eyes open and will sleep for about 20-40 minutes before waking, and then I'm really groggy for another half hour or so, and feel tired in general all the time from the lack of sleep.

I've been taking B12 and D supplements, as well as omeprazole and an OTC acetaminophen/aspirin combination.

Brief Answer:
Magnesium supplements advised as following...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I am sorry for the bad gastritis you went through starting ten days ago.

If it was associated with severe bouts of diarrhea and vomiting, then, this explains your feeling tired and spasms in your legs and body due to loss of electrolytes.

You are saying to have started multivitamin supplementation containing vit.B12, vit.D. I would add also magnesium supplementation that will help improve your muscle spasms. Keep well hydrated. Chamomile tea at bedtime can also help.

Wish fast recovery!

So mot to worry, even with the cramping in my throat and tongue? I also feel a strong urge to stretch my back and legs frequently

Brief Answer:
Not worrisome;time is needed to recover...

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,

This is a temporary situation after recovering from severe gastroenteritis.

If the symptoms will persist after taking magnesium supplements and keeping well hydrated after a couple of weeks, you can schedule an appointment with neurologist for further evaluations.

I still there is nothing worrisome as you need more time to recover from this severe gastroenteritis.

All the best!
