Question: I was recommended NSAID for two degenerating disc's in lower back quite a few years ago by a pharmacist (my back pain very much still exists but now manageable) however the problem is I now rely on these tablets and do take too many out of habit. This has resulted in 2 ulcers 18 months ago, weight loss and very low iron levels around 80, currently my iron levels have dipped below 80 and I am suffering with major fatigue, loss of appetite, my question is how can I safely stop taking the NSAID's?

Brief Answer:
We need to explore other ways to manage the backache...

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for posting
I have gone through your query and understand your concern.

The backache could possibly be addressed by using some alternative therapies or a combination of medication and the following:-

1.Regular spine exercises, posture correction , avoiding prolonged sitting and hot water fomentation.

2.Physiotherapy in form of short wave diathermy and TENS therapy helps.

3.To prevent gastric ulcers you may have pain killer patch (sticker) like Nupatch, buvalor along with muscle relaxant drug thiocolchicoside.

4.Take vitamin B12,Calcium,iron and vitamin D.

5. If you are overweight, then weight loss would help control the pain in a big way.

Your local pharmacist/GP knows about the above drug,so get them prescribed for you.
These all measures help in getting backache cured.

Above all your will power and motivation will help in getting over the habit of taking NSAID's.
Hope this helps and I shall be glad to answer any further query.
Take care.
