Detailed Answer:
Hi there XXXXXXX My name is Vinay Bhardwaj and I'm one of the doctors here at HealthCareMagic. Thanks for coming in and asking your question.

I see that your wife has been suffering from back and leg pain. Before I talk about what medications she can take for that, it would be a good idea if I could gather a bit more information from you as to the cause of the back pain.

There are unfortunately many many causes of Back pain. So to try and make our discussion useful to you and your wife and to narrow down the possibilities I would like you and her to try and answer the following questions to the best of your knowledge. The more information you can give me the more useful I can be to you guys.

1. How did the pain start? When did it start? Was it sudden or gradual?

2. Does the pain have a pattern? For instance its it worse in the morning and gets better through the day?

3. Can she describe where in the back the pain starts? Does it move to other places or does it stay in one place?

4. When she bends forward or backward, does the pain change in any way?

5. What brings on or increases your pain and what makes her feel better? This includes whether she feels better with activity or with rest.

6. Does she have any related symptoms, such as leg pain, weakness, or numbness; or problems with her bowels or bladder.

7. Do you know if she has had any spine problems since birth (congenital spine problems).

8. Has she ever been diagnosed with any type of arthritis?

9. Has she ever injured her back?

10. Last but certainly not least, does she smoke?

If you guys can answer these questions for me, it will go a long way to figuring out what is going on and helping me work with you on a plan to deal with this pain.

In the meantime. Over the counter (OTC) medications like Paracetamol (Dolo), Ibuprofen (Brufen) or combinations of the two.. for example Imol are good medications to take when the pain becomes unbearable. In general you should not take any of these medications more than 3 times a day and you have to make sure she drinks plenty of water while she is taking them.

The medications should help as a short term measure to control the pain, but overall, we must find out the cause and address it for long term relief.

I look forward to your reply,

Vinay
