Question: Hi Dr, I am having allergy and asthma problems. I am taking antihistamine like alday or sometime inhaler (aerocort) sprays. I am married(male, 33y), and we are planning for kids. Will these medicines will have health problems for the baby? What is your advice for getting a healthy baby, without the way I suffer?

Brief Answer:
Take regular inhaled treatment.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
These drugs are safe in fetus.
But my suggestion is to take inhaled treatment regularly.
Control of asthma is must in pregnancy.
So take your inhaler regularly. Get done periodic PFT (Pulmonary Function Test) to monitor your asthma control.
Well controlled asthma patient can deliver child normally without any harm to the child.
So consult pulmonologist and get done PFT (Pulmonary Function Test).
PFT will tell you about severity of the disease and treatment of asthma is based on severity only.
Hope I have solved your query.
I will be happy to help you further.
Wish you good health. Thanks.

Dr, you have given advice considering I am lady. But i am male and my question is more specific. I am taking allergic and asthma tabs. But my wife does not. We are planning to go for baby. But I am concerned that, the medicinal changes in plasma have impacts on DNA and can have allergic or other problems in the child? Do I need to stop these medicines for sometime when we try to conceive?
Overall I am looking for a healthy child who don't suffer like from allergies and asthma.

Brief Answer:
Asthma is hereditary in nature.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your follow up question on HCM.
I can understand your concern.
Sorry for misunderstanding.
Your asthma medicines will not affect your DNA and cause any trouble.
But asthma is hereditary and Genetically transmitted disease.
It runs in family.
But incidence of transmission is not 100%.
So it is not 100% that your child will develop asthma in future. But familial transmission is high in asthma.
Drugs will not affect your DNA for sure.
Hope I have solved your query.
I will be happy to help you further.
Wish you good health. Thanks.
