Question: Yes please
A friend of 45 years who has had MS 30 years needs our help.
She is 81, smokes pot since she was 18, has had a rough like (self caused) spent time in prison @ 19 years old. Talks like a sailorShe adopted a set of twins aged 50. The adoption was never finalized because her husband was sent to prison and she was afraid of losing them. She is half crazy and has pulled a gun on her son 35 years ago. So now she needs help and the kids want nothing to do with her.
She owns her own home and she has a dog she would die for. She is trouble doing a lot of things like putting her coffee pot in the cupboard when it has hot coffee in it as well as forgetting things (sometimes)
doesn't shower. We had a CNA go over to help and she told her if she comes back she will shoot her. Believe me I wouldn't want to go back over there. Her medicare is screwed up so we are trying to get that reinstated. So my question is: What should we do. Send her to the psyc ward or what. She needs to be where they can care for her. I hate thinking about it but something needs done and she isn't going to go willingly

Brief Answer:
She most definitely will require medical attention

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. I completely understand how you feel and from the basic description provided by you I can guess that she has conditions like paranoid (possibly even paranoid schizophrenia), anxiety, panic, psychosis, depression, etc; along with being senile.

The list can go on, but I cannot form an accurate diagnosis without a consultation with her if at all she doesn't shoot me before we complete. In such cases, you will have to report to the psychiatric asylum and ask for their help. An old age home will be putting her in danger, the other residents as well as the care givers. So the best place would be a psychiatric ward, but the medical team there should be co-operative enough to visit her place and possibly even tranquillise here in order to get her to the psychiatric ward without anyone being harmed.

I am sorry to say this, but sadly she will need medical attention to help cope with her mental illness and behavioural changes. Please do not hesitate to write back to me for any further clarifications, and I hope she gets the medical attention she rightfully deserves.

Best wishes.
