Suggest Treatment For Anxiety, Depression And Mood Swings While On Levothyroxine

default
Posted on Tue, 21 Feb 2017
Question: I am currently being treated for Hypo. I had my thyroid removed in Feb of 2016. I am currently on Levothyroxine 100MCG. I feel absolutely awful. Throwing up every few days, have had ear pain for a very long time that comes and goes, using the bathroom numerous times, sweating at night to the point I have to change sheets, no sleep, always cold, I feel like I am loosing my mind! Headaches wont stop! Using my reading glasses at work now. Please help me understand why this is happening!
FT4 was 0.90(normal range 0.8-1.7) FT3 1.3 - Low (normal 2.0-4.8) TSH 47.01 (normal 0.45-4.50)
I have attached my test results both previous and current. My GP Doctor has no clue what to do and prescribed me the same medication I am currently on even though my test results above. I am crying for no reason, having serious mood swings, anxiety and depression. I am currently looking for a new endo as the one I had was not giving me accurate care. Any help or advice you can give is much appreciated. Meant to put FT4 was 0.9 not 0.90. Sorry

Brief Answer:
Thyroid

Detailed Answer:
Sorry to learn about your bothersome symptoms. I have reviewed the attached reports. It is very likely your symptoms are due to the under-active thyroid condition you have called hypothyroidism. The dose of levo thyroxine you are on seems clearly insufficient. When I see someone like you in my practice, I typically increase the dose by at least 25 mcg but often use weight-based dosing guidance additionally. Kindly see an endocrinologist in-person promptly to get appropriate dose adjustment

Is there anything I should tell the office when scheduling an appointment? Do I need an immediate appointment or would it effect me if the appointment is a month out? it very hard to find an immediate appointment but not too sure how critical it is for me to be seen. Thank you for your time.

Detailed Answer:
Call the office and request a prompt appointment on the basis of a TSH of 47.

It is not a medical emergency but the longer you delay treatment, the worse your TSH will get and you will continue to feel unwell.
