Question: Hello my name is XXXX. My 18 year old Daughter suffers from anxiety and depression. She has had been to therapy sessions pretty regularly. The Doctor prescribed Lexapro for depression and that has helped. Her family doctor has prescribed Buspar for the general anxiety and severe travel anxiety. She started taking 7.5Mg 2x daily about three weeks ago. She is now on her trip and will be embarking on a cruise tomorrow morning. She is having panic attacks in Florida right now. Is there anything she can do to help the anxiety with what she has available to her. Her family Dr's are not retuning calls. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Yes she need to increase dose of buspirone to three times a day

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,

Thank you for your query.

First of all at this stage she needs medicine which acts immediately .
She needs to take anti anxiety like benzodiazepins ( clonazepam 0.5 mg ) mouth dissolving tablet which acts immediately and gets relief from panic attacks.

According to your question she has only escitalopram and buspirone with her. In this situation, we might consider increasing dose of buspirone to three times a day. Buspirone is good anti anxiety and increased dose up to three times a day may help control her symptoms.
That being said, I will strongly urge try calling her treating doctor again and discuss about increasing buspirone.

Besides dose increment, relaxation exercise like deep breathing and meditation should help her.

Anxiety and panic attacks do not harm body physically. So encourage her not be worried. In the absence of other options, perhaps she can consider increasing buspirone.

Hope this helped.

Thank you
