Question: I fell off a stool in July of 2016. I still have a bruise right above my outside ankle and it hurts to walk still. I cannot go up on my toes on that foot. Also the tendon feels like it is rolling over the outside bone and popping when I walk.

Brief Answer:
Ankle sprain

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for asking HCM.

I have read your symptoms and according to your history of falling from a stool this might be the case of a ankle sprain. This is an injury to the tough bands of tissue (ligaments) that surround and connect the bones of the leg to the foot. This type of injury typically happens when you accidentally twist or turn your ankle in an awkward way.

It can take several weeks or months for a sprained ankle to heal completely.

The x-ray that you have done will give more info about the bones and their possition. Will not give information about the ligaments. In this case a MRI is the first choice to check the ligaments.

Also a physical exam by an orthopedist will give a lot of information and an idea what might be wrong with your ankle.

In some cases, after a trauma, there is acumulation of calcium due to the inflamation and it can irritate the nervs or the ligaments near it.

If you have any other question, feel free to contact me.

Wishing you good health.
