Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for posting
I have gone through your query, for sprained ankle my suggestion would be -hot water fomentation, ankle brace, exercises along with Ibuprofen and trypsin/chymotrypsin to reduce pain and swelling for 5-7 days. To rule out other causes as you are uncertain about sprain you may get blood test done like serum uric acid, blood sugar and RA factor. If already done you may share it with me in your reply.
Do you have family history of joint pain?
Hope this helps and I shall be glad to answer any further query.
Take care

Hello,

what is hot water fomentation exactly?

should I apply ice to the pain. Ice seems to make it feel better?

Brief Answer:
Hot fomentation makes tissue soft and flexible

Detailed Answer:
Hi
It's good to see you
After going through the whole discussion, we suggest Ice application after injury for the first 24-48 hour, to stop bleeding and resultant swelling.Afterwards, heat application is used which makes tissue more flexible. This heat may be dry as by electric heating pad or wet as in hot water fomentation.
In hot water fomentation we advice to dip a soft cotton cloth/towel in hot water and after wringing it out to remove excess water is applied to the painful site.
Hope this helps.
Take care and I shall be glad to answer any further query if you have or you may close the present discussion.
Regards
