Question: I have a 1.3 cm anechoic cyst in the interpole left kidney with mild increased echogenicity of the renal parenchyma noted which may be seen in the setting of medical renal disease. Not sure what all that means, but what is the next step to determine any kidney damage?

Detailed Answer:
Hi, Thanks for using HCM.

I went through your query and understood your concerns.

Anechoic cysts in kidney is a common finding and these are usually benign cysts and do not cause any symptoms unless rarely if it bleeds within.

Further studies using CT or MRI helps to determine complexicity of cyst and classify it. Further management depends on type of cyst.

Blood test like BUN, serum creatinine and urine test for blood helps to know functioning level of your kidney.

Dull abdominal pain, blood in urine, fever with chills, any of these symptoms needs evaluation to rule out infection of cyst or increasing size of cyst.

Hope I answered your query. Feel free to ask further related query.
Wish you a good health
