Suggest Treatment For Anal Bleeding In An Elderly Person

default
Posted on Thu, 17 Aug 2017
Question: My mother is 91 years old and quite healthy other than an issue with one eye. Yesterday she asked my whether I had ever had haemorrhoids. I have not then she proceeded to tell me that she felt a strange sensation which required he to go to the toilet. She said that blood just came flooding out. I am concerned, but she said that she has had them in the past and they resolve. Feeling that I should take her to see her doctor, but wanted an opinion if possible.

Brief Answer:
Can be anal fissure or Hemorrhoid.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for choosing HealthcareMagic for your query.
Have gone through your details and i appreciate your concerns.

Hemorrhoids are swollen blood vessels in the rectum or anus that can be painful, itchy, and can sometimes bleed .Painless rectal bleeding with a bowel movement is a common symptom of hemorrhoids. Bright red blood typically coats the stool or blood may drip into the toilet or stain toilet paper.
Second possibility is Anal Fissures . An anal fissure is a small tear in the lining of the anus, which can cause bleeding and the sensation of ripping, tearing or burning after a bowel movement.

I would suggest you to take her to a general surgeon.
Digital and proctoscopic examination of rectum(10 minutes procedure) would be done to rule out the cause of bleeding.Finger would be inseted in her anal canal by dictor to check hemorrhoids.
Any treatment could be suggested only after knowing the exact cause of problem.

Wish you good luck.

Thanks.
