Question: Hello Dr.
I am a 51 year old male, I'm currently 156 lbs and in good shape as I get regular exercise through walking and running. I am in a relatively high stress executive job and I've been dealing with family health issues involving my elderly father. I have had an upset stomach and diarrhea off and on for about 3 weeks. This happens occasionally when Im over stresses or worked. How can I help over come the problem?

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for writing to Health Care magic I have read your question and will health you through your health issue.

Stress related Gut upset is not something un heard of, it is a fairly common things which occurs in quite a majority of people who are dealing with mental stress.

There is no certain way of controlling it though but things can be made better doing a few simple things.

1) First thing first try not to over stress yourself.. now ..this isnt an easy job to do... how can you do this wel you gotta learn few things to avoid stress..

There are actually techniques based on solid science i would suggest you to read about them or meet a psychoatrist to learn them.

They include dostraction technique..like when you are stressed out try to get busy in something else..

Dispersion technique ..if you are doing one things for 3..4 hours and now its getting on to your nerve shift to some other thing which you have to do eventually and dont do one thing for long etc. Well there are exercises and relaxation techniques which will help with stress and when stress gets controlled this issue will get better. You have to take out an hour a day for you alone this will help you make yourself composed.

2) When ever you have an episode...shift to fiber and whole wheat ..you can take fibre supplements if organic.

3) Do not use milk and meat when having an episode.
4) Drink much water.
5) Eat salade and simple vegtables during episode.

I hope these things will help you with the problem there are meds to control bowel movements but I would first recommend you to adopt life style modifications as they are the healthiest choice.

Wish you the best of health , I you have more questions I am happy to answer you

Stay blessed.

Regards

Dr.Ahmad.
