From what you have described it sounds like you have an internal hemorrhoid. This is actually a swollen vein which can cause symptoms including pain or itching. You might also be able to feel the actual hemorrhoid as well. sometimes there can be some bleeding associated with a hemorrhoid.

You could try and over-the-counter topical remedy or you could try sitting in a warm bath for 15 to 20 minutes a couple of times per day. This will usually lead to gradual improvement of the swelling. If however the swelling continues for over a week then I would recommend that you see your primary care doctor for a good physical examination and consultation regarding this.
