Question: Hello, My name is XXXX and I am 25 years old, 150 lbs, and 5'8. I was at have been seen by a doctor and was told I have acute tonsillitis. He gave me some antibiotics... While I am not feeling very much pain my neck feels somewhat swollen and I have a puss pocket on my left tonsil. I also have some numbness on my left cheek/jawline. Is this normal when dealing with tonsilitis? Also I just started the antibiotic.

Brief Answer:
acute tonsillitis.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for your query.

As your doctor has said that you have tonsil infection , it is best treated with penicillin group of antibiotics + anti inflammatory medicines like paracetamol + diclofenac combination drugs twice daily for 3 to 5 days.

Betadine gargling twice daily for 3 days will help you. Please continue the treatment given by doctor.

Pus pockets in tonsils are called follicles and they are quite common in any tonsil infection.

Swollen neck is because of enlarged lymph node. Numbness in the jawline is also quite common. Don't worry. You will be fine with the medicines doctor gave you.

Hope my answers have helped you.

Regards
