Suggest Treatment For Acute Piercing Pain Above Neck
Question: Hi Dr. Rynne,
I am XXXX from New XXXXXXX - XXXXXXX
I am facing acute piercing kind of pain right above the neck under the head. It's been 4-5 days since I am going through the pain but was ignoring it thinking it might be due to incorrect sleeping posture.
Last night of terrible as I was having lot of pain inside the head from top end of spine traveling to back of head.
What could be the reason. Kindly suggest.

I have studied your case.
There is possibility of cervical spine muscle spasm. Due to spasm there can be acute pain.
For these symptoms analgesic with muscle relaxant like thiocolchicoside and neurotropic medication like pregabalin can be started consulting your doctor.
Another possibility of disc bulge leading to acute pain.
I will advise you to MRI / x ray cervical spine for better diagnosis
Till time, avoid lifting weights. You can consult physiotherapist for help.
Physiotherapy like ultrasound and interferential therapy will give quick relief.
Gradually neck exercises can be started after relief.
I will advise to check your vit B12 and vit D3 level.
