Question: Being diabetic, my doctors jaw it the floor when my A1C came back 4.5. She had me take the test again and the results were the same. I'm an alcoholic who recently came out of the hospital with acute pancreatitis. After being discharged, I had to eat a ton of calories and carbs to gain the 20lbs I lost while in the hospital. My lowest A1C was 6.5 since being diagnosed three years ago. The only information that is available for abnormally low A1C are anemia and cirrhosis of the liver. My GI refuses to order a liver biopsy because I don't show the classic sings of cirrhosis. Do my eyes have to turn yellow before I get a biopsy?

Brief Answer:
As mention below

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear
Welcome HCM and thanks for query
I understand your concern

Following are the causes of false low A1c:
Chronic liver disease that prodcue chronic anemia
Chronic alcoholism
High dose of vitamin C
Hemolytic anemia.

But increased bilirubin cause artifactually increase in A1c.

Liver biopsy is the last option to diagnose the cirrhosis.
Cirrhosis is associated with jaundice, ascites, hepatomegaly and vascular lesion.
So if you have above symptoms then go for LFT, prothrombin time, USG scan abdomen.

Hope I have answered your query
If you have further query then I will be happy to help you
