Suggest Treatment For Actinic Porokeratosis

Question: I have had actinic poro keratosis for about 30 years. It is gradually getting worse despite my never going out in the sun and covering up when I do . Years ago I had treatment by freezing and applying specialist creams, but neither were effective. Is there any new treatment available now?

Brief Answer: DSAP treatment Detailed Answer: Hello and welcome to healthcaremagic. I am Dr. Kakkar. I have gone through your query and i have understood it. Disseminated superficial actinic porokeratosis, or DSAP, is inherited as an autosomal dominant characteristic. DSAP mainly affects the lower arms and legs. It has a characteristic clinical appearance of red-brown annular macules/patches which on close examination have central atrophy and a peripheral hyperkeratotic ring. Unfortunately, there is no very satisfactory treatment for DSAP. Traditionally cryotherapy/freezing has been used for larger lesions. Other treatment modalities that have been tried are: -5-Florouracil -5% Imiquimod -Vitamin D analogues e.g calcipotriol -Oral retinoids -Laser (Q-switched XXXXXXX Laser) etc However noting has proved very effective long term I would suggest that next time you visit a dermatologist for freezing, you can and get a prescription for one of these. regards
