Question: HI Doctor,

I have changes in my bowel movement. Below I have listed down in details.

1) Urge to go to the toilet just after eating. Some time I pass gas some times i have a little bowel movement (semi solid).
2) I have to go the toilet twice or thrice in morning before breakfast to get my bowel empty.
3) After I feel that my bowel is totally empty (i.e) after 4-5 times in day. I feel relaxed, lazy and sleepy. Why?
4) No problem with appetite as I am able to eat well.
5) Sometimes in a day I will have 4-5 times bowel movement. Atleast one time it will be a loose motion not severe but liquid.
6) No cramps or abdominal pain .
7) Fresh blood drops rarely when i go to the toilet multiple times in a day because I have a bit of internal haemoroids.
6) No vomiting or fever
7) I am obese and alcoholic (drinks everyday).
8) Sleeps around 6:30 - 7:00 hours daily.

What I am suffering from, what are the medicines I need to take to cure it.

Brief Answer:
Could be due to irritable bowel syndrome

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concerns. Your urge to pass stool after feeds is likely to be due to a phenomenon called gastrocolic reflex. It can sometimes persist till adulthood. You could also be having irritable bowel syndrome and that could be the cause for your repeated urge to defecate. You need to cut down on your alcohol intake and that could help. The alcohol metabolism products could be messing up with your system and that could also be the reason for your feeling sleepy and lazy.

Let me know if I could help further.

Brief Answer:
Needs to be evaluated first

Detailed Answer:
Gastrocolic reflex does not need to be treated.
Irritable bowel syndrome can be treated with Anticholinergic and antispasmodic medications. These medications, such as hyoscyamine (Levsin) and dicyclomine (Bentyl), can help relieve painful bowel spasms. However, they should be taken only after proper evaluation and prescription by a physician, preferably a gastroenterologist.

Brief Answer:
Lifestyle modification and giving up alcholol is essential

Detailed Answer:
The given details do not seem to indicate towards a cancer. However, if you do not stop drinking you may eventually develop cirrhosis and cancer of liver. Severe weight loss and jaundice are symptoms to look out for.

Colon cancer is usually not detected early. If detected early (before spread occurs) it can be totally cured.
