Question: Hello!
I have been followed up for Right upper quadrant pain so they did a CT scan on October 9th of abdomen and pelvis that showed a cyst on left ovary of 2.6 cm. free fluid in pelvis and endocervical. (minimal). fast forward till today where I went to ER for Left pain in lower pelvic region, bloating and just today a spotting after intercourse (only happened once). The doctor at ER did a transvaginal US and noted an enlarged left ovary. no cyst? just enlarged ovary. and some little fluid in pelvis. I am very worried that he could be ovarian cancer. no masses were noted. I am confused please help! Could a ct scan plus transvaginal ultrasound have picked up if it was cancer?

Brief Answer:
Hello dear. There is nothing to worry

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear. I have gone through the details. So an ovarian cyst is considered to be cancerous if it is more than 5cm in size, increasing in size, or iscomplex with solid components. You have none of the features so there is actually nothing to worry. However, you ca get a ca125 test to relieve your anxiety further.
Thanks and regards

Brief Answer:
Hello. You need serial follow up

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear. As i expect you are still Menstruating, the likely cause will be a degenerated cyst, endometriosis, or very rarely a cancer. Get a ca 125 test done and follow up with monthly ultrasonography to see any change.
Thanks and regards

Brief Answer:
Hello. Donot worry

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear. I have gone through the details. So report says only enlargement and no definite mass or cyst is there. So i dont think it fits into a tumor. As i said earlier, you require only regular follow up and nothing else. You can get ca 125 levels done for further workup. No need to worry.
Thanks and regards

Went to another hospital where they did ultrasound not a transvaginal one, the ovaries were same size there was no enlargement. My question is how can a test reveal two different results, first ultrasound detected oenlarged ovary,The one done a day later said ovaries were both same size??

Brief Answer:
Hello. Difference can arise

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear. I have gone through the details. Difference can arise cos of2 reason. Ist, transvaginal ultrasound is more sensitive than abdominal, and2nd due to interobserver bias. Two person can perceive it differently the smaller changes in size and shapes. I still advise you to be on follow ups at same centre.
Thanks and regards
