Suggest Treatment For A Nervous Breakdown

Question: My husband's father is a very mean man who I believe is a sociopath. For the last 13 years my husband has worked for his father. His father verbally abuses him on a daily basis and only shows affection when my husband brings in new business (money). He abandoned my husband as a child with his mother and was gone for 10years on and off. They have a very very dysfunctional relationship. However my husband who Ive been with 17 years was always kind and consistent and we had a great relationship, very healthy.

My father in law was recently diagnosed with stage 4 cancer 90 days ago. Upon hearing this, my husband seems to have snapped!! He seems to have regressed to 11 years old- very immature & reactive. But he also seems to be blaming me for his dads cancer. He began raging on me, telling me I am horrible wife and how I am the reason he wasnt closer to his dad. Basically he hates me now. He has also begun self medicating. NONE of his accusations are true and none of this behavior is like him. Is he having a breakdown? Why is he blaming me for things that are not my fault?

Brief Answer:
Its a nervous breakdown

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for choosing health care magic for posting your query.
I have gone through your question in detail and I can understand what you are going through.
What your husband is going through is a nervous breakdown. If the stress is significant then the regression that he is going through can occur. He will require psychotherapy in the form of supportive psychotherapy to vent his feeling and you may seek a psychologist for this purpose for your husband. Until you find one, give him a patient hearing without much interruption and solutions. let him speak out his mind and that will make him feel better. He may also require some antidepressants and sleeping aids. Do meet a psychiatrist/psychologist in your area who can guide you further.
Hope I am able to answer your concerns.
If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.
