Suggest Treatment For A Kidney Infection

Question: Hi ,

My girlfriend has had a kidney infection since last Wednesday. She went to the doctor and was prescribed antibiotics. Since then her mood has totally changed. She is getting very irritated over things that would not normally bother anyone. She is also very depressed. She has been depressed in the past but has been doing well recently up until now. I noticed she is taking Gerax Alprozolam. Is this contributing? What should I do?

Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome.
Well, alprazolam is benzodiaezepine which is used for anxiety disorders, but it may also have some psychological side effects and cause paradoxal reactions that you describe. I dont think this all is related to uroinfection or antibiotic treatment.
YOu should talk to her and see if there is some non-medical reason for her behaviour. If not, then you should consult her to switch medications and have reduced dosage or take another one in consultation with her doctor.
Wish you good health. Regards
