Brief Answer:
Local steroid injection can help.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
A ganglion cyst can become painful due to constant stress that causes an inflammation. If hot compress and mild pain killers are not helping then you need to consult an orthopedician and get local steroid injections at the specific site for relief from inflammation.
Avoiding all painful movements will also help.
I hope this answers your query.
In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out.
Wishing you good health.
