Question: I had a colonoscopy on Monday. I felt fine until early this morning, when I had to urinate frequently. Normally I only need to urinate once during the night if at all. I cannot remember when I have needed such frequent urination, with very mild irritation. The colonoscopy required some effort by the consultant, with changes in my position and some discomfort, despite having a sedative. Is it possible that the colonoscopy caused some temporary bruising to the prostate?

Brief Answer:
Possible urinary tract infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for asking.
I am Dr. Prakash HM and I will be answering your query.

Based on your query, my opinion is as follows:

1. Bruising of prostate presenting so late, is not possible. Colonoscopy is usually not associated with bruising of prostate.

2. If it were to be bruising, you would have had symptoms of obstruction more, rather than increased frequency.

3. It appears to be possible urinary tract infection. Get a urine examination done for confirmation. Based on tests, antibiotics can be started.

Meet your doctor for a urine examination. Microscopy would show leukocytes.

Hope it helps.
Any further queries, happy to help again.
