Suggest Treatment For UTI During Pregnancy
Question: Hello,
I am 11th week pregnant and I have UTI since my 6th week, I already tried augmentin but still the infection presists. I was prescribed zinnat 500mg but It seemed that I throw it up after taking it, even the liquid form prescribed , still I threw it up after 5 minutes, so I decided to stop. What should I do? Thanks

I am so sorry to hear about this persistent UTI. Most infections are treated within a week and I find it hard to understand why your is taking several weeks to be treated fully. The possible reasons are the following and I will like that you discuss with your doctor on this:
1. The antibiotics used are not sensitive on the germ causing the infection.
2. There is a predisposing condition like kidney stones, backward flow of urine, etc.
I will like that you ask your doctor directly and get answers to this. If you have recent urine testing results, I will appreciate that you upload them and I would review and provide more insights.
Antibiotics cannot be prescribed online. I am also surprised at the choice of antibiotics as Zinnat is not often used to treat UTI unless there are special reasons for. These are all things I would like you ask your doctor. There is need to make sure you a re completely treated. For that, let your doctor re-evaluate the treatment and see whether there is need for more antibiotics or not.

Thank you for your quick response.
I had my first check up done on my 6th week and was diagnosed with UTI and was prescribed augmentin for 7 days which I took. Although I was having some discomfort after taking it but managed to finished it all. I am also having some nausea/vomitting probably due to morning sickness.
After three weeks, I returned to my OB and was asked for urinalysis, I don't have a copy of it but was advised that my pus cells is 20 plus or more which clearly indicate that the infection still exists.
This time I was prescribed zinnat 500 mg in tablet form which I only took a single tablet and was really feeling sick after taking it, I vomitted all the food I ate when I took it so I stopped it.
I went my back to my OB and was advised to finish it, I was told that the vomitting possibly was caused by the infection.
I resumed taking it but after three tablets, the effect is the same, I vomitted in less than an hour, although I took maxalon which is an anti nausea drug. So I went back again and ask for other alternative, I was given zinnat but in liquid form and mixed it with the juice but after 5 minutes i vomitted the juice.
So, I ruled out tha such antibiotic is being rejected by my body.
Is there an effect with my baby what if it it will keep on recurring and left untreated?
What should I suggest with my OB? how about the urine culture thing?
I am afraid taking another antibiotic again because I am worried that i will act similary with zinnat.
