Suggest Treatment For UTI Accompanied By Gastroenteritis

Posted on Wed, 26 Oct 2016
Question: I hope so. About three hours ago I began to have symptoms of a UTI for the first time in probably fifteen years. Frequency urinating, constant pressure, pain urinating, continual pressure and pain in the bladder area. I have a somewhat sensitive stomach and yesterday afternoon, after eating some leftover chicken stir fry I had noticed a very slight case of diarrhea but nothing very uncommon. So I ate the stir fry again today. Now I am having more severe diarrhea along with the bladder infection symptoms. Could these combined symptoms be serious? I have never experienced them simultaneously.

Brief Answer:
Supportive care

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

i read your question and i understand your concern. UTI with gastroenteritis together may cause more discomfort than alone but these cant be serious, and slight management and supportive care should help.

For UTI ideally urine culture and routine tests should be performed and antibiotics be started accordingly but till then empiric treatment is wise. Good hygiene, good coital habits, frequent fluids intake and supportive care for the pain like antispasmodics, tylenol etc would help.

For diarrhea, you need to stick to BRAT diet ( banana, rice applesauce, toast) pomegranate juices, green tea, yogurt and peppermint and oral rehydration solutions like pedialyte etc. Stay hydrated and wait and see, stomach will clear this likely food poisoning with in 72 hours.

I hope it helps. Take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.

Khan.

Dr. XXXXXXX I have started bleeding from the urinary track. After urination the toilet tissue is becoming dark pink and blood is noticeable in the toilet. I will make an appointment with my G.P. tomorrow. Should I go to ER tonight with these symptoms? I have never had a UTI so severe that blood shows up the way it is.

Hematuria indicates urinary tract infection. You need antibiotics and urgent urine routine exam and culture sensitivity. It can wait till morning consult. If pain is not bearable or blood increases you may go to ER as well.

i hope i helps.
