Suggest Treatment For TB

Posted on Thu, 27 Nov 2014
Question: My wife, 45 years, is working with microbiology laboratory of a reputed hospital in XXXXXXX since 1993. Now she diagnosed for TB and undergoing treatment for last two and half months. The treatment is getting progress but also developed lymphnode. Hospital authorities have asked her to go on leave (without pay) on and from 31st October and asked her to come back with 2 separate sputum for AFB test. (she has no balance leave in her account). She had given the sample to Dr.Lal Path Labs, XXXXXXX on 1st November & 2nd November and both the reports are negative. Her x-ray reports of 18th October is showing some satisfactory progress. My question is whether based on the reports, whether the doctor will issue her a fitness certificate and she can join the duty now. Whether hospital authorities have any right to refuse her in joining duties? If hospital management refused to take her back on duty, what action should be taken by us? (Searching and getting other job at this age is beyond our imagination)

Welcome to healthcare-Magic
Greetings of the day

Dear Ms XXXXXXX

I do understand your concern. I assume she had pulmonary tuberculosis. After the initiation of anti-tubercular treatment after 2 weeks even the open case of tuberculosis becomes non infective to others. As she has been on Anti-tubercular treatment for more than 2 months and her 2 consecutive AFB test are negative, she does not pose health hazard for others and can resume her duties.

Do get fitness certificate from any Medical officer preferably from Government hospital and produce it to her employer. She should be back on her duties. As she has been on duty since 1993, I hope she has provision of provident fund, so in case of any discrepancy you can lodge a complaint with labor agency/ Employees union. I think this will not be required, all that is required is a medical certificate.

Wishing you best of luck .
Take Care Bro
