Posted on Sat, 16 Jul 2016
Question: I am a 43 year old, former medic in the Army. I suffer from ADHD and it is affecting both my marriage, family life and work. I was prescribed Adderral by my Dr. in Iraq (A full-bird Col.) and would like to go back on it. I was a 20 year combat medic serving in both Iraq and Afghanistan as well as an urban system paramedic. This is something I have considered long and hard and want to do.

Brief Answer:
Its good and wise to treat adhd. please tell about past treatment history

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Welcome to health care magic!
I have read your question and can see that your whole life is being affected negatively because of ADHD and you would like to take treatment for the same.

I would like to tell you that adhd remain undiagnosed most of the times and you being a medic yourself have an advantage over other people that you can recognize it and treat it. Its a common illness and creates major problem in the sufferers.

In order to help you, I would like to know-
1. The reason as to why did you stop the medicine earlier despite having good response?

2. Also please tell the dosage you were taking that time.
These are the important questions which I ask to my patients with similar complaints.

We can proceed with the management after the answers to these above.

I hope the reply helps you.

Please write in detail about the previos treatment and your present general condition and relevant family history.

Wish you good health and speedy recovery.

I became a police officer and was afraid that there would be a negative stigma associated with it if it were discovered.

2. Also please tell the dosage you were taking that time.

I beleive it was 20mg, 2x a day. That is 10mg in the AM and 10 MG in the afternoon.

Brief Answer:
ok...you should take medicine again and can try atomoxetine

Detailed Answer:
Hello

So, there was no side effects for which you had to stop the medicine. And as you mentioned earlier you had response to the drug.
There is a better molecule which is also not habit forming and treats adult adhd better- atomoxetine.
I think if you meet your psychiatrist now and discuss it, he would start you on this drug.
This is also not a dependece producing drug like ampehtamine(adderal) and will better suit your job profile.
There sould not be any problem of response as you have had good response in the past to tretment.

I hope the reply is useful

Wish you good health.
