Suggest Remedy For Vomiting And Diarrhea
Question: My husband became ill Monday night with vomiting and dirrherea. After 24 hours I gave him Pepto bismal/or kaopectate. the vomiting has ceased but he still has the watery dirrherea. He is drinking ginger ale and power ade. what else can I do for him at home. YYYY@YYYY thank you. XXXXXXX

Thank you so much for this query. I am so sorry to hear about the watery stool your husband still has. I have reviewed the information fully and his symptoms are suggestive of an acute infection(probably viral) of the digestive tract. Treatment is mainly supportive and consist in drinking enough fluids to replace any losses. Diarrhea cannot kill him as long as he is able to drink enough fluids and not vomit. Because he is able to drink enough, there is no reason to be worried at this time. He would recover fully within 5days. He recovery is typical of persons with this infection type and there are no red flags for us to panic about.
In all, be reassured that the disease process is typical and recovery is as expected. Let him continue drinking much fluids and all would be okay. If any other concerns do come up, please talk to me and i will address them.
