Suggest Remedy For Vertigo Caused By Obesity
I've had no physical exercise and largely live a moderately active life at work as well as at home. I was also a moderately heavy smoker (about 12 - 15 cigarettes a day)
This last year (2015) has been rather crazy and hectic for me in the sense that the following have happened.
1. In the beginning of the year I started having what could only be described as palpitations and nervousness (the doctors said it was anxiety).
2. I quit smoking in January (relapsed for a few smokes mid year and then one occasional one a few weeks ago) but have kicked the habit.
3. I've been on setaline and beta blockers for the first 4 - 5 months of the year.
4. I've even developed bouts of vertigo / imbalance which would happen off and on in the beginning, then more frequent by mid year and now, for the past few weeks constant (I've been given Vertin for the same but it didn't kill the issues).
5. Im getting some ent checkups etc done for this.
6. Through the above I've successfully traveled to many cities across the year and struck deals with major clients sealing a great deal of business and revenue for my business.
7. I believe at the end of the year, I truly do feel extremely exhausted (after working endless nights and traveling hectic for a few months)
While all the above has been happening, I've gained a lot of weight. Around 10 kilos to be exact and am extremely devastated by it.
My diet is the same, activity level might actually be increased but I just seem to keep gaining weight.
And the vertigo (I don't know if it is vertigo) first started off as a bouncy feeling (felt like the floor was bouncy) and has, for the past few weeks become more of a imbalanced feeling like the floor is shaky.
The feeling is there constantly and is mild enough not to be alarming but enough to be a constant irritant.
I've been to one ent who said that my ears nose and throat look clear.
I've had vitamin tests done (b12 and D) a few months ago which all came clear.
Had an X-ray of my cervical spine done which shows a mild change in curvature and light spasms.
I've even had my lipid profiling done which seems clear.
Could you please shed some light on this.
Thank you!
overweight can cause dizziness
Detailed Answer:
Dear
Thanks for contacting Ayurveda with your health concern and following is/are recommended guidelines for you:
1. Since you have undergone quite a few investigations and examination, thus following can be summarised:
a. If ENT examination was Normal who excluded 'peripheral' vestibular disorders [problem in ear] as cause of vertigo then consult a Neurologist for 'central' neurological vertigo [ problem in brain]
b. since x-ray cervical spine shows mild changes thus can be an aggravating cause of spinning. [Arteries in neck vertebrae supply the brain and when they become narrow, blood flow to the brain is restricted, resulting in dizziness]
c. Other factors which at the same time are causing the problem of 'feeling shaky' in you is/are:
. Overweight [present]
. Diabetes [check with your blood sugar]
. Overeating
. Lack of Exercise [present]
. Motion Sickness [history of travelling present]
. Hypothyroidism [check with your thyroid profile]
. Metabolic Syndrome
d. Do let me know about any of the possible causes and do check with a Neurologist, in the mean time one has to slightly change his dietary regime and Lifestyle Management as follow:
DIETARY AND LIFESTYLE CHANGES
1. There is a limit to how much one can exercise every day. An average (non athlete) person cannot run or exercise vigorously for more than 30 minutes i.e. you cannot burn more than 300 calories through EXERCISE everyday! So it is important to control the tongue, along with whatever exercise you do:
½ hour of walking burn 130 calories
½ hour of jogging/running burn 300-350 calories
½ hour of swimming burn 250 calories
½ hour of cycling burn 150 calories
½ hour of aerobic exercise burn 250 calories
½ hour of light exercise like writing/driving burn 50 calories
i.e. if you don’t exercise you consume about 2000-2500 calories per day. To this you Add any of the above exercise protocol to consume more calories, and keep your calorie consumption below 2000 per day and you will be losing weight
2. Tips on Eating: Starvation is not the right way to loose weight. Take the right type of diet and eat heartily:
AVOID:
.sedentary lifestyle, day time sleeping after meals, newly harvested rice, curd, butter, ghee, cheese, cream, chocolates, cakes, pastries, ice-creams, XXXXXXX
. oils should be reduced to minimum, avoid deep fried foods like puries, bhujees, potato chips.
.avoid potatoes, sweet potatoes, beets, yam, nuts, fruits with sweet pulp like XXXXXXX chickoos, bananas and grapes.
. Avoid processed and tinned foods, opt for fresh foods
. Drinking cold water after exercise.
. Eliminate all cold food and drink; you should eat nothing that is refrigerator cold.
WHAT TO EAT:
.start the meal with large bowl of thin soup, followed by good volume of salads prepared with green vegetables (cabbage, cauliflower, lettuce, cucumber, sprouted pulses). This will prevent you from taking extra servings of the meals. . Drink plenty of water and diluted buttermilk.
.Avoid rice, take roti or phulka, without oil or ghee. The bhaji servings should be prepared from green leafy vegetables, onions, cauliflower’s,lady’s finger, radish, turnips, mushrooms, sprouted pulses. Oil may be substituted by gravy of tomato, onion, garlic, and ginger, in the curry or bhaji for taste.
. For morning and evening snacks, take recommended fruits, vegetables and low fat (skimmed) milk, black tea without sugar has negligible calories.
. Carbohydrates: fat requires carbohydrates to burn, so take them in moderation like grains.
3. DEVELOP HEALTHY EATING HABITS:
. Do not eat only 2 large meals a day. It leads to overeating due to hunger. Take snacks in between. It is advisable to eat a good breakfast and light lunch and dinner.
. Keep a quiet and pleasant atmosphere in the dining hall. Watching TV while eating, talking, arguments, angry discussions all lead to overeating g.
. Eat slowly; chewing each bite thoroughly gives a feeling of satiation.
. Do not be tempted to finish up the leftovers.
. Use nonstick cooking ware for cooking
