Question: I developed pulsation in my left ear a month ago w/o hearing loss. Saw ENT who felt I had fluid behind the era drum. I was told to take nasal sprays and wash sinus. pulsation decreased slowly but I now realized my hearing in left ear is suddenly substantially reduced

I need to know if i will regain my hearing loss if fluid is removed from behind my eardrum. Need response asap with potential treatment option.

Brief Answer:
PTA, I/A

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

1. Get a PTA ( Pure Tone Audiometry ) and an I/A (Impedance Audiometry / Tympanometry ) done immediately. The eardrum must be examined again.

2. If the PTA report shows a Conductive Hearing Loss ( CHL) and the I/A report shows a 'B' type flat Tympanotomy, then a Myringotomy with grommet insertion should restore your hearing. Eustachian Tube Dysfunction (ETD) should be treated.

3. If the PTA report shows SensoriNeural Hearing Loss ( SNHL ), then the treatment is different and must be done within 4 to 6 weeks.

4. Upload these test results for an accurate assessment.

5. Try OTC nasa decongestant drops ( 0.1 % Xylometazoline ) and steam inhalation.

I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any more questions I will be available to answer them.

Regards.
